Gray Wood Cladding: A Contemporary New Zealand Experience

New Zealand is a country with a great network of huts. But what is a New Zealand hut? A backcountry hut is actually a country house that serves as a shelter for hikers overnight. In our case, it is located on the edge of the Puhoi River, in the northern part of the peninsula of New Zealand. It was designed in gray wood cladding, just like a response to the aesthetic and abstract qualities of the rural landscape, typical for this region.

A large annex contains additional bedrooms and storage areas.

According to design.blog this two-story residence, Mr. Maurice designed for his own family. The high level of architecture is well assured thanks to the small details, put in place during the construction. On the ground floor, it houses a multifunctional room that serves both kitchen and living room. Thanks to the sliding glass doors, this room spreads on a contemporary veranda , always in gray wood cladding, giving us the impression of being in the open air.

Extending from the ceiling to the floor, the wood continues to reign even inside the hut, and that’s why the choice of materials was crucial to the success of this project!
